Senior Program Officer
As senior program officer at Rose Community Foundation, Elsa Holguín directs the Foundation’s Child and Family Development area, which oversees development and improvement of early-childhood education, as well as parent-education programs that help parents raise healthy children. She is also responsible for the development of economic self-sufficiency strategies to strengthen families.
Named the 2000 Outstanding Professional in Philanthropy in Colorado, Holguín has nearly 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She came to Rose Community Foundation from The Hunt Alternatives Fund where she served as executive director. In addition, she worked at The Women’s Foundation and served as associate director of Mi Casa Resource Center for Women where she established and oversaw the Business Center for Women, a nationally recognized entrepreneur-training program.
Holguín was appointed to the board of Denver’s Department of Human Services in 2003. She also currently serves on the national boards of Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families and Hispanics in Philanthropy. In addition, she is a board member of the Just Media Fund, Metropolitan State College’s Alumni Association and the Latina Initiative. Former board memberships include: The Women’s Foundation, LARASA, National Council of Nonprofit Associations, Metro Volunteers and the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center. Holguín earned her Bachelor of Science in Finance from Metropolitan State College of Denver.
In 2001, Holguín was included in the Women’s Leadership Circle of the Girls Scouts – Mile Hi Council. In 2003, she received two awards: the Outstanding Microenterprise Advocate from the Colorado Association of Microenterprise Initiatives and Spirit of Tlatelolco from Escuela Tlatelolco. Holguín considers her most important accomplishments, however, to be her two daughters, Denise and Tiffany.
