Denver, CO—During the first three months of 2017, Rose Community Foundation awarded 147 grants totaling almost $2 million. Of this amount, $1,339,385 was awarded for 27 grants from Rose Community Foundation’s program areas to nonprofit organizations, government agencies and projects that support the well-being of the Greater Denver community. Donor-advised funds housed at the Foundation approved 120 grants totaling $571,888. Rose Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling nearly $255 million since its inception in 1995.

The Foundation’s staff and board of trustees authorized the following grants between January 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017.

PROGRAM AREA GRANTS

Aging

Colorado Center for the Blind (Littleton): $15,000 for the Senior Services Program, which provides in-home or on-site training to support older adults who are blind or losing vision and their caregivers.

Colorado Latino Age Wave (Denver): $300,000 over eighteen months toward a grant totaling $350,000 to support innovative services and programs promoting the well-being of Denver’s Latino older adult population and their family caregivers. The grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Aging and Health program areas.

Continuing Legal Education in Colorado (Denver): $8,000 for the printing of an updated Senior Law Handbook to be distributed at this year’s 19th Annual Senior Law Day in Denver on July 29, 2017.

Denver Food Rescue (Denver): $10,000 to help launch the Goodness Groceries/Bondadosa project, an affordable telephone-based grocery ordering and delivery service for older adults.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of Colorado (Denver): $2,500 to bring the Safe Place campaign to Denver to reduce the incidence and encourage the reporting of hate crimes committed against the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer population, especially elders, by allowing institutions/businesses to self-identify as “safe places.”

Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (Denver): $15,000 for the Older Adult and Caregiver Services Geriatric Care Management Program which provides care management services to low income older individuals.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $2,800 to explore the role of Rose Community Foundation’s Aging Program Area in bringing the Reframing Aging national project to the community level.

Child and Family Development

Colorado Center on Law and Policy (Denver): $126,000 over two years for the Skills to Compete Coalition and the Assets and Opportunity Network, two projects aiming to increase the economic security of low-income Colorado families through advocacy efforts.

Focus Points Family Resource Center (Denver): $15,000 to support planning for a new organization, Roots Family Center, that will provide Parents As Teachers (PAT) and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) programs to underserved families in Southwest Denver.

How to Read Your Baby (Brighton): $29,220 to create an e-learning program for parenting educators that supports the effective use of the Partners in Parenting Education curriculum and instructional model.

Office of the Governor, State of Colorado (Denver): $10,000 to support the Two-Generation (2Gen) Colorado Conference. The 2Gen approach focuses on creating opportunities for and addressing the needs of both vulnerable children and their parents together.

Education

Aurora Public School District (Aurora):

• $275,000 to build district capacity to support five historically under-performing schools that have been given increased autonomy in the district’s newly formed ACTION Zone.
• $675 to support the professional development of ten Aurora Public Schools’ teachers, leading efforts in the district to implement blending and personalized learning practices.

Colorado Education Organizing Funders Collaborative (Denver): $15,000 to build the capacity of the Colorado Education Organizing Funders Collaborative. Rose Community Foundation serves as the fiscal sponsor.

RISE Colorado (Aurora): $75,000 to support Educate, Engage, and Empower programming, serving low-income families and families of color in Aurora Public Schools.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $1,000 to support quarterly meetings where teacher advocacy organizations can update one another on their work and assess areas of potential collaboration.

Health

Colorado Children’s Campaign (Denver): $7,000 for general operating support of this nonprofit which advocates for the development and implementation of data-driven public policies that improve child well-being in health, education and early childhood.

Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition (Aurora): $30,000 to build public will among key Colorado lawmakers, the parents residing in their districts and to promote model immunization policymaking.

Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (Denver): $15,000 to support the the Protect Our Care Colorado Coalition, which works to build public and policical will around protecting key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, safeguarding against Medicaid block grants and supporting acceptable policy alternatives as they emerge or are developed.

Colorado Latino Age Wave (Denver): $50,000 over eighteen months toward a grant totaling $350,000 to support innovative services and programs promoting the well-being of Denver’s Latino older adult population and their family caregivers. The grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Aging and Health program areas.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver):

• $3,750 to support the development of the Funders Learning Network’s strategy to positively impact Early Childhood Mental Health systems in Colorado.
• $6,840 to help guide and inform advocacy and policy-related program initiatives, specifically around the mental health and social/emotional development of Colorado’s children.

Jewish Life

JEWISHcolorado (Denver): $500 to support Queer Seder, a Passover Seder for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and allies.

Menorah: Arts, Culture and Education at the Boulder JCC (Boulder): $35,000 over three years to support the Boulder Jewish Festival, the largest Jewish outreach and cultural event in Colorado.

Roots and Branches Foundation (Denver): $246,100 over two years to support a collaborative philanthropy program for Jewish people ages 25 to 40 who are interested in giving together to help shape their Jewish and broader communities. Roots and Branches is an initiative of Rose Community Foundation.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $15,000 to investigate the possibility of a 2017 socio-demographic study of the local Jewish communities.

University of Colorado at Boulder, Program in Jewish Studies (Boulder): $30,000 over two years to launch a five-part themed lecture series presented annually called Community Talks.
