Boomers Leading Change

Donor Services

In the 60s they changed the world. In their 60s they may do it again.

Boomers Leading Change is a long-term Rose Community Foundation initiative to engage people over 55 in opportunities for ongoing work, community service and lifelong learning. Boomers Leading Change recognizes that this large and highly experienced segment of the population has much to offer American society and communities for many years to come.

Boomers Leading Change is based on the promise of the “experience dividend” that baby boomers will contribute to their communities, their nation and their world by remaining engaged, or by re-engaging in socially useful and personally meaningful activities during retirement — or instead of retirement. As the baby boomers reinvent aging, they will challenge America’s institutions to remove barriers, change perceptions and adapt to the changing reality of aging.

The Community Experience Partnership
Rose Community Foundation is one of 30 community foundations across the U.S. selected to take part in the Community Experience Partnership, a long-term initiative to mobilize the experience, talents and skills of experienced adults to benefit their communities. The Community Experience Partnership is funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies (atlanticphilanthropies.org).

Metro Denver Community Assessment
To explore the interests and opportunities of adults aged 55 to 65 in the Denver metro area, Rose Community Foundation did the following:

  • We formed an advisory committee to obtain guidance, share information, build connections, ensure inclusiveness and generate ideas for the initiative.

  • We conducted a research study to build a base of knowledge about the principal factors that determine how adults 55-65 will integrate their experience, skills and knowledge into community life, such as:

    • Existing conditions in the community that encourage or discourage experienced adults’ investment of time, talent and experience for the greater good.

    • Attitudes, interests and motivations of adults aged 55-65 regarding work, retirement, civic engagement and learning.

  • We published a report about the community assessment.

  • We held a community forum in June 2007 to release the report and discuss possible future courses of action.
