Jewish Women’s Fund of Colorado (JWFC) uses its financial, volunteer and staff resources to provide educational programming that helps women build on their confidence, knowledge and networks so they may become catalysts for change. These programs usually take the form of multi-session, time-delineated gatherings or discussion groups around a specific issue or topic.

In 2007, JWFC created, developed and facilitated a rigorous, six-month workshop for women in their 30s and 40s. This Action Group provided participants with tools and resources needed to make organizational impacts—specifically, how to be effective nonprofit board members. Examples of sessions, each led by respected community leaders, included identifying board fit, bringing gender and diversity to boards and addressing systemic change within an organization.

JWFC planned two Action Groups in 2010:

  • Conversations for Transformative Change – Women now make up half the nation’s work force, yet our family lives, work places and governmental policies are rooted in an outdated model. This six-session Action Group examined how we can take advantage of this unique time in our history, embrace this new dynamic and become catalysts for change—individually and collectively. JWFC provided Action Group participants with the most recent research, reports and concepts about this revolution; taught practical, transformative communication skills; explored how Jewish history and values have much to offer when thinking about social change; and provided the opportunity to meet and learn from community leaders who have put into practice what it means to create transformative change.

  • Women & Finance This five-session Action Group engaged women in addressing a key question: “How do personal, cultural and community dynamics inform and impact a women’s relationship to money—and subsequently her time, talent and treasure to affect progressive causes?” These sessions incorporated individual and group exercises, panel discussions and speakers.
