Engage
Jewish Women’s Fund of Colorado (JWFC) uses its financial, volunteer and staff resources to engage the community on issues affecting the status of women and girls. This engagement usually takes the form of events. A sampling of JWFC's educational programs includes:
-
A panel discussion in partnership with Women's Collaborative for Colorado and The Women's Foundation of Colorado's Empowerment Council focusing on several 2010 ballot initiatives. Attendees learned what makes Colorado's democratic process unique and what women can do to make their voices heard on issues that matter to them. (Fall 2010)
-
A breakfast featuring Carolyn Buck Luce, a nationally known expert on gender and the workplace. The conversation covered topics as: how Baby Boomers and Millennials' approach to life, work and giving is similar to women’s in general; What is stopping women’s voices from having an impact? Why is mentorship so important? Why does any of this matter – personally, professionally or philanthropically? (Fall 2010)
-
A workshop and a lecture co-hosted by The White House Project and led by Katie Orenstein, founder and director of the New York-based The OpEd Project, examining how the lack of women's voices in public discourse has affected the quality of our nation's conversation. Participants discussed why marginalized voices tend to write themselves out of the story, and how to reverse this course in which women in particular rationalize and internalize their own marginality. (Spring 2010)
-
A gathering to discuss up-to-the minute developments in health care reform. Kathy Bonk, cofounder and executive director of Washington, D.C.-based Communications Consortium Media Center, and Elizabeth Arenales, director of the Colorado Center on Law and Policy’s health care program, engaged attendees in a lively conversation about this issue and its impact on women in Colorado and nationally. (Fall 2009)
-
Multiple convenings of key individuals and organizations in Colorado around Moving Forward, a national effort to reframe the conversation on reproductive health, in collaboration with two national organizations: Communications Consortium Media Center and Women Donors Network. (Fall 2007)
