February 7, 2008 The Latino Community Foundation of Colorado Awards $200,000 in Inaugural Grants Denver, CO - The Latino Community Foundation of Colorado (LCFC), in conjunction with the national organization Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP), has awarded its first grants totaling $200,000. The grants were awarded to strengthen 13 organizations across the state that are led by and serve Latinos. In addition to funding, grantees will receive technical assistance, leadership training and networking opportunities. A celebration for the inaugural grantees, the LCFC’s Founders and community leaders will be held on March 6, 2008. Formed in 2007 and housed at Rose Community Foundation, the LCFC grew out of a three-year initiative of Rose Community Foundation in association with HIP. The goal of the initiative is to expand the amount, impact, and leverage of individual giving by Latinos to the community. Two local partners also joined the effort, The Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation and the Western Union Foundation. Through the initiative, a group of Colorado Latino philanthropists came together as the LCFC’s Founders. The Founders’ contributions were then matched by HIP through its Partnership for Strong Latino Communities. “Latinos have a tradition of giving and are ready to be recognized as philanthropists,” says Ronald Montoya, the LCFC Chair and a Rose Community Foundation trustee. “For Latinos, giving to the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado is a tremendous opportunity to help our own community, and to create a legacy of giving for future generations.” For more information about the LCFC, contact Marcelina Rivera at 303.398.7448 or mrivera@rcfdenver.org, or visit rcfdenver.org/latinocfc. A list of grants awarded by the LCFC follows.
