Young Adult Jewish Grantmakers Seek Innovative Ideas:
Will Award Nearly $95,000 in December 2007

Denver, CO - The 18-member Roots & Branches Foundation, organized and funded by Rose Community Foundation, is now actively seeking grant proposals for innovative programs and projects offered within the seven-county Denver/Boulder community. In December 2007, Roots & Branches Foundation will grant up to $94,470 for efforts that directly benefit Jewish individuals ages 25 to 40 by involving them in Jewish activities or by engaging them in secular or Jewish community activities to help others. Roots & Branches Foundation invites individuals, groups of individuals, or nonprofits—Jewish or non-Jewish—to submit grant proposals that:

  • Engage Jews in social justice or advocacy programs, or in projects that help vulnerable and disenfranchised members of society become self-sufficient, especially those most at risk or marginalized.

  • Tap into this generation’s interest in culture—art, music, film, theater, interactive media, and fiction—as a means of bridging the gap between popular culture and Jewish values.

  • Welcome and break down barriers for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community; interfaith couples and families; and Jews of color.

  • Provide outreach and educational and cultural opportunities with Jewish values, culture and traditions to families of very young children (up to age 5).

  • Promote activities that provide connections and explore Jewish identity.

  • Welcome newcomers to the Jewish community, as well as others who feel outside the Jewish community, helping them to connect.

  • Empower, create or strengthen networks of younger Jews building community and incubating leadership.

The deadline to submit a grant proposal is Friday, November 30, 2007 at 12:00 p.m.

Roots & Branches Foundation’s members include Jews from throughout the Metro Denver area. They represent a broad spectrum of Judaism, describing themselves as Orthodox, Reform, Reconstructionist, Modern Orthodox, Conservative and secular Jews.

The group has been meeting every three weeks since July to learn about philanthropy, and to decide how to give away $94,470 in grants. It has just released its 2007 Request for Proposals, Grant Guidelines and Application, which is available at Roots & Branches Foundation’s Web page, rcfdenver.org/initiatives_roots.htm, part of Rose Community Foundation’s Web site. The document is also available by contacting Lisa Farber Miller at lfmiller@rcfdenver.org or 303.398.7420.
