Teen Funders Seeking Grant Proposals: Will Award $50,000

Denver, CO - For the seventh year in a row, Rose Youth Foundation will award grants to organizations in the seven-county Denver/Boulder community. In May 2008, Rose Youth Foundation will grant up to $42,500 to programs and services that:

  • support teen and college-age involvement in the Jewish community and encourage personal connections to Judaism

  • promote intra- and/or inter-religious acceptance, tolerance and respect, including between Jewish denominations, for people ages 12 to 22

  • promote integration and self-sufficiency of refugees and/or asylees who have fled their country of origin for fear of conflict or persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion

  • engage and empower high school students to advocate for educational change in public schools

Rose Youth Foundation will also grant an additional $7,500 to Denver’s Road Home, the city’s ten-year plan to end homelessness.

The 23-member Rose Youth Foundation, organized and funded by Rose Community Foundation, is now actively seeking grant proposals from nonprofit organizations. The deadline to submit a grant proposal is Monday, March 10, 2008 at 12:00 p.m.

In the Request for Proposals (RFP) to potential grantees, members of Rose Youth Foundation say, “The Jewish ideal of tikkun olam (to heal the world) teaches that we must always work to make the world a better place. Through this grant, we believe that we are following this ideal and truly making a positive impact in our community.”

Rose Youth Foundation’s members, who attend 13 different schools in seven local cities, represent a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, from Reconstructionist to Orthodox to unaffiliated.

The group has met twice a month since November to learn about philanthropy, and to decide how to give away $50,000 in grants to programs serving the seven-county Denver area. It has just released its 2008 Request for Proposals, Grant Guidelines and Application, which are available on Rose Youth Foundation’s page at Rose Community Foundation online, rcfdenver.org/RYF, or by contacting Sarah Indyk at sindyk@rfdenver.org, 303.398.7416.
