January 16, 2008 Breast Cancer Support Fund Established at Rose Community Foundation Denver, CO - Sue Miller, a breast cancer survivor and founder of the Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness, has established the Sue Miller Transitions Fund at Rose Community Foundation. This charitable fund will provide financial support to organizations and programs serving the medical and mental health needs of people living with breast cancer. A former fashion model, Ms. Miller was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1971. She has used her experiences as a survivor to raise breast cancer awareness and offer a message of hope. A 2002 Inductee into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame and recipient of numerous awards, Miller is the author of a book released in 2006: I'm Tougher Than I Look: The Sue Miller Story As told to Amber Dahlin. “I established the Fund to perpetuate the work I started in 1980 when I organized the first Day of Caring event in Denver," said Miller. The Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness was eventually offered in eight U.S. cities. CURE Magazine has now taken over those events, and it is now known as CURE Day of Caring. CURE will hold its second Day of Caring in Denver on May 3, 2008. Those interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the Sue Miller Transitions Fund may contact Rose Community Foundation at 303.398.7459 or email chall@rcfdenver.org. Rose Community Foundation supports efforts to improve the quality of life throughout the Greater Denver community through its endowed grantmaking programs, and by advising and assisting donors who wish to make thoughtful charitable investments to better the community. The Foundation has granted more than $128 million since it was founded in 1995. For more information, visit rcfdenver.org. |
